SORENSON LEGACY FOUNDATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Charter: The Sorenson Legacy Foundation has been established to implement the charitable interests of the James LeVoy Sorenson family. The foundation has a broad spectrum of philanthropic interests and supports endeavors that:

  1. Encourage and support the long-term preservation and enhancement of the quality of life of all humankind, especially of families and children;
  2. Assist the disenfranchised of society, such as but not limited to, abused spouses and children, in order that they receive the full benefits of membership in society and fulfill their potential as human beings;
  3. Promote medical research and the development of innovative medical technologies for saving lives and alleviating pain and suffering;
  4. Promote the development of the arts, including art education in schools, assistance of promising young artists, and support of performing arts organizations;
  5. Promote community development and security, adequate and affordable housing, and education and job training;
  6. Promote law and order generally and provide youth with alternatives to gangs, crime and socially nonproductive behavior;
  7. Protect and enhance the environment, preserve wild and open spaces, and promote development of parks and green spaces;
  8. Promote the development of science, culture and recreation;
  9. Promote world peace and unity through a greater understanding, tolerance and harmony among religious, national and ethnic groups;
  10. Advance the programs at private and state universities and colleges that are consistent with the foundation's charter; and,
  11. Advance the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in all its places.

All Sorenson Legacy Foundation applications will be reviewed and screened by the foundation’s executive director to ensure that applications are appropriate within the foundation’s charter and are approved and in good standing with IRS 501(c)(3) requirements. After evaluation by the executive director, charitable contributions and grant applications may be approved by a majority vote of a quorum of the board of directors. Grant applications are reviewed by the foundation’s board of directors on a quarterly basis.

HOW TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION

First, review the Policies and Procedures section above. If you feel your organization’s grant request qualifies for the foundation’s consideration, please note the following:

Grant applications are reviewed by the foundation’s board of directors on a quarterly basis. For a grant to be reviewed in the first quarter, it must be received by Dec. 1 of the prior year; the second quarter deadline is March 1; third quarter deadline is June 1, and fourth quarter deadline is Sept. 1. It is not possible for applicants to make presentations at the board meetings.

All grant submissions must use the downloadable grant application below, with no expansion to the application form as it stands.

Please follow these instructions carefully: Download the grant application PDF file to your personal computer. Enter your organization's information and answer the grant application questions by typing directly into the PDF file on your computer. Print out the completed application and mail to:
