Two Local Charities Chosen as Beneficiaries of Upcoming Sorenson Champions Challenge
Utah's premier celebrity golfing fundraiser has selected art works for kids, of Salt Lake City, and American Indian Services, of Provo, as equal beneficiaries of proceeds from this year's event.
SALT LAKE CITY, UT (July 11, 2007) — The Sorenson Group of Real Estate Companies, title sponsor of the tenth annual Sorenson Champions Challenge pro golf tournament at Thanksgiving Point Golf Course Aug. 20-21, 2007, has selected art works for kids, of Salt Lake City, and American Indian Services, of Provo, as equal beneficiaries for the proceeds from this year's charity tournament.
Now in its tenth year at Thanksgiving Point, Sorenson Champions Challenge begins on Mon., Aug. 20, with a pro-am tournament that matches each foursome with one professional, partner, or golfing celebrity in a team scramble format. On the following day, the Sorenson Champions Challenge is played by twosomes competing in a scramble format. The event is hosted by World Golf Hall of Fame member Johnny Miller. In past years the challenge has drawn such golf greats as Jack Nicklaus, Annika Sorenstam, Billy Casper, Sergio Garcia, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Fuzzy Zoeller and Hale Irwin, as well as celebrities such as Bill Murray, Vince Gill, Kenny G, LaVell Edwards and Danny Ainge.
"It will be two days of fun for spectators, participants and sponsors," said James Lee Sorenson, CEO of The Sorenson Group. "And we are very enthusiastic about helping two innovative education-based organizations. Programs like art works for kids and American Indian Services bring both economic opportunity and cultural insight to the young people of our community."
The independent, non-profit organization art works for kids promotes and supports fine arts education in Utah's elementary schools. Begun in 1995 as a pilot project for teaching music, dance, theater and visual art, art works for kids now serves thousands of Utah children and teachers through grants, support services and advocacy.
American Indian Services (AIS), headquartered in Provo, has been providing important programs, especially academic scholarships, to Native Americans since 1958. The mission of AIS is to assist Native Americans in developing their human and natural resources in order to help them contribute to society.
