American War Heroes Receives $100K Donation from Sorenson Legacy Foundation

SALT LAKE CITY (July 25, 2006) – American War Heroes, a private, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting U.S. military personnel who have been severely injured serving in the War on Terror, announced today that the Sorenson Legacy Foundation, which manages the charitable endeavors of the family of James LeVoy Sorenson, has donated $100,000 dollars to help several disabled veterans.

“We are proud to assist in this exceptional cause,” said James LeVoy Sorenson, who is a medical device pioneer and philanthropist. “These Americans have sacrificed greatly for us and we are honored to have the opportunity to come to their aid now.”

Through American War Heroes, retired Sgt. Brian Wilhelm, of Colorado, who lost his lower leg in a rocket-propelled grenade attack near Balad, Iraq, will receive funds to support his training the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Retired Spec. Kyle Burleson, of Louisiana, who was paralyzed from the neck down when his Humvee was hit by enemy fire in Iraq, will receive funds to assist in costs associated with building a new house that is capable of handling the electrical infrastructure necessary to keep his life-support systems working reliably. Burleson’s new home will also contain a special bed that electronically helps turn him over and adjust his body.

Retired Sgt. James Mouton, of Texas, who lost his left leg in the Gulf War, will receive funds to pay for travel and accommodation expenses incurred during his trip to New York on June 26 to attend the high school graduation of his son.

The balance of the donation from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation will be used to assist other veterans of the War on Terror.
