Sorenson Medical Names New COO and New VP of Sales & Business Development
Seasoned Executives LeVoy Haight and Eric Olson Well-Positioned to Help Drive Product, Company Growth
SALT LAKE CITY (January 23, 2006) - Sorenson Medical, a provider of pioneering portable electronic infusion pumps for pain management, today announced that it has named LeVoy Haight as the company’s new chief operating officer, and Eric Olson as its new vice president of sales and business development.
Haight joined Sorenson Medical in 1998 as a project engineer, and has since served in roles of progressively greater responsibility—including director of R&D engineering, VP of marketing and business development and VP of reimbursement and compliance. These experiences have provided Haight with extensive knowledge of Sorenson Medical’s technologies and capabilities, the markets in which the company operates, and the complex interactions between patients, physicians and insurers. Prior to his experience with Sorenson Medical, he worked at Eastman Chemical Company and Huntsman Chemical Company.
Haight earned BS degrees in chemical engineering and mathematics from Brigham Young University, an MS in industrial engineering from the University of Central Florida and an MBA from LeTourneau University.
“It is an honor to serve in this capacity for a company that does so much to help alleviate suffering and improve the quality of medical care,” said Haight. “I have great confidence in the Sorenson Medical management team, employees and products, and am extremely bullish about our future.”
Olson joined Sorenson Medical in 2003, equipped with 15 years of successful experience in sales and marketing within the medical device industry. He has led top-producing sales and marketing teams in organizations ranging from pre-IPO start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, and has recruited, trained and managed highly successful direct sales and distributor organizations. Prior to his Sorenson Medical experience, he was founder and president of Protech Medical, an orthopedic distribution company based in Northern California.
Olson obtained a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and health administration with a minor in Japanese from the University of Utah, together with a master’s-level internship from the same university.
“I am convinced we have the finest, most innovative pain management devices in the market,” said Olson. “I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to help drive these products to industry leadership.”
“LeVoy and Eric have clearly demonstrated their value to this company, and I have every confidence in their ability to help take Sorenson Medical to the next level, in the U.S. and globally,” said James Lee Sorenson, CEO of Sorenson Medical.
Sorenson Medical’s flagship product, the ambIT® pump, is a lightweight, electronic portable infusion device that enables patients to go about their normal daily activities as they receive pain treatment, while reducing the need for oral narcotics and their associated side effects. Infusion pain pumps such as ambIT also allow patients to remain mobile after surgery and recover comfortably at home, thereby avoiding the risk of hospital-acquired infections and prolonged hospitalization. ambIT pumps are about the size of a TV remote, are housed in a belt pack and run on two AA batteries.
