Herriman City Receives Gift to Help Complete W. & M. Butterfield Park Pavilion In Time for 2004 Fort Herriman Days
Timely bequest allows for completion of 1,000-seat outdoor performing arts pavilion at Herriman's 60-acre park
HERRIMAN CITY, Utah (April 28, 2004)Herriman City today announced receipt of a donation of $400,000 by Rosecrest Inc., which will enable the community to complete its long-planned 28,600-square-foot outdoor performing arts pavilion at W. & M. Butterfield Park in time for the 2004 Fort Herriman Days celebration.
The outdoor performing arts pavilion, which will include stage, dressing rooms, refreshment areas and covered seating, will be a centerpiece of the park, which now includes an equestrian facility and baseball quad. "We have completed the seeding, sodding, tree-planting, parking lots and street lights in the park," said Herriman Mayor Lynn Crane, "and down the road we plan to build an indoor arena and outdoor swimming pool."
The 60-acre park, located at 14200 S. 6400 West, and its multi-purpose facilities, are all the result of a succession of generous gifts, said Crane. "As best as we can figure, to date we've had $4,133,500 donated for the park and facilities in land, equipment, cash and labor."
The 2004 Fort Herriman Days celebration will include junior and professional rodeos, games, rides, booths, food, entertainment and fireworks at the park. A dedicatory ceremony for the W. & M. Butterfield Park and its facilities is planned during the festivities on Friday evening, June 25, 2004. "We will have a parade ending at the pavilion. The dedication ceremony will be followed by a performance of Clog America, a Utah professional dance group that has performed across the U.S. and internationally," said Crane. Saturday will feature activity and entertainment all day culminating with a brilliant display of fireworks.
Receipt of the $400,000 Rosecrest Inc. donation was timely for Herriman. "This gift is a wonderful contribution to our community," said Crane. "Rosecrest has been a great corporate citizen. They have consistently supported our community and have always been willing to help promote a high quality of life here."
"We're just happy to be a part of it all," said Donald Wallace, President of Rosecrest Inc. "Herriman has been very positive in working with us and while our homeowners benefit from this new facility, so does the entire southwest community. This is part of our long-term commitment to the city. Helping build a beautiful performing arts pavilion is one way we can give back to this community." For several years, Rosecrest Inc., of Utah, has been developing a 1,038-acre master-planned community in Herriman.
The property for the park was donated to the city by Wayne Butterfield, a local livestock rancher, with the intention of providing a facility to serve youth recreation, said Crane. Since then, the park has grown through donations into a multi-purpose recreation center which serves not only the interest of young people, but the entire community.
