On January 31, 2005, Sorenson Genomics announced it would help identify victims of the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami by collecting tissue and dental samples from the most difficult victims to identify. Sorenson Genomics collected and ran DNA analysis on more than a thousands specimens in order to identify these victims for their living relatives. The donation has an estimated commercial value of $1.5 million.
