On April 5, 2007, the Sorenson Legacy Foundation donated an additional $1 million to Gallaudet University to help complete the James Lee Sorenson Language and Communication Center. The additional contribution brings to $4 million the total amount the Sorenson Legacy Foundation has contributed to Gallaudet for the center, which will be devoted to deaf people's language, culture, history and community.

On February 6, 2006, the Sorenson Legacy Foundation donated $250,000 to sponsor the opening ceremonies of the 2007 Winter Deaflympics to be held Feb. 1-10, 2007 in Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah. As part of the International Olympic movement, the quadrennial Deaflympics attract world-class deaf athletes to competitions that use flashing lights and hand signals or flags rather than starting guns or whistles.

On February 17, 2005, James Lee Sorenson presented Dwight Benedict, chair of the 2007 Deaflympic Winter Games Organizing Committee, with a check for $250,000, on behalf of Sorenson Media. The quarter-million dollar donation took place during a news conference called by Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. to announce that Utah has been selected as the site for the international sporting event Feb. 1-10, 2007.

On November 4, 2004, Sorenson Media and the Sorenson Legacy Foundation donated $5 million to Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, the world's leading institution for higher education of the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
